Bankai is the final stage of the Zanpakuto, only Soul Reapers at the highest level are able to obtain it, out of the four great noble families, who are blessed with far greater spiritual pressure then others only one child in several generations is able to reach this level, and those who have obtained it have all had their names forever etched into the history of the Soul Society, that is Bankai.
